SimSmsBox Short answer: No — Telegram cannot create an account without a phone number. There is no email option and no username-only signup. What you can do is register with a number that is not your personal one, and then hide that number from everyone afterwards. Those are two different problems, and most guides confuse them.
Search results for this question are full of APKs and “generators” that promise a Telegram account with no number at all. None of them work, because the requirement is not enforced in the app — it is enforced on Telegram’s servers at the point the account is created.
What Telegram actually requires
Registration hands Telegram a phone number, and Telegram sends a login code to it. The account identity is that number. Everything else — username, bio, profile photo — is decoration added later.
Two consequences follow, and they get mixed up constantly:
- At signup, you must control a number that can receive Telegram’s code.
- After signup, the number can be hidden from other users, and you can be found by username instead.

A second real SIM
The unglamorous option, and the most robust one. A prepaid SIM you keep topped up will still receive a re-verification code in a year. Telegram treats it as an ordinary mobile number because it is one.
The downside is geography: buying a foreign prepaid SIM usually means being in that country, or paying a reseller far more than the airtime is worth.
Telegram’s own +888 anonymous numbers
Telegram sells blockchain-based numbers in the +888 range through Fragment. They exist purely as a login identity — no carrier, no SIM, no ordinary SMS. They are the only route Telegram itself endorses for signing up without a conventional number.

An SMS verification platform
You rent access to a real number’s inbox for long enough to receive the code. This is the cheapest way to complete a signup, and it is what most people actually mean when they search for this.
The catch is the one nobody mentions in the first paragraph: a per-code activation gives you the number for a few minutes. The signup succeeds, and then the number rotates back into the pool. Why the “no-number” apps do not work
Modified clients advertising number-free signup fall into three groups:
- Repackaged clients that still call Telegram’s real API. The number requirement is server-side, so the screen you skipped comes back at the API layer.
- Shared demo accounts where hundreds of people log into one number. These get banned within days, and everything in the chat history is visible to strangers.
- Credential harvesters that ask for a number and a code, then use them to register the account to somebody else.

Choosing between them
You want a throwaway account for one channel. An activation from an SMS platform is fine. Accept that the account is disposable and do not attach anything you care about.
You want a second identity you will keep. Rent a number for a period, or buy a +888. A per-code number will strand you at the first re-verification.
You are protecting privacy from other users, not from Telegram. Register with any number you control and set the privacy toggle. You are done.
You want privacy from Telegram itself. Only +888 gets close, and even then payment leaves a trail. There is no configuration that makes an account untraceable.
Choosing a number that will actually receive the code
Whatever route you pick, the number type decides whether the code arrives at all:

After the account exists
Registering with a non-personal number does not automatically hide it. Do these three things:
- Set a username. People can then find you without a number at all.
- Phone Number → Nobody, and Who can find me by my number → My Contacts.
